KJ Yesudas's concert in Hyderabad is all set to take place on Sunday. His son Vijay Yesudas and Kalpana will also take part in it. This is the legendary singer's first ever concert in Hyderabad in the last 10 years. "I am glad to be doing a LIVE concert here tomorrow. I will sing Telugu, Tamil, Hindi and Malayalam songs," he began saying.
Interacting with the media on Saturday, Yesudas said, "I always give importance to the written word. I imbibed this from my mother. When I was a child, she would tell me to perfect Carnatic music even if it comes at the cost of my academics. For that, I am thankful to her." He added that his parents encouraged his musical endeavours to the exclusion of his siblings, who also used to sing very well.
"I can't forget my gurus. I regard my gurus as my gods. Whatever I am today, it's because of them, my parents and the lovers of music. I was stationed in Trivandrum many decades ago to do Vidhwan in Carnatic. During my course, my father got sick and our family was financially affected. I had to cut short my course and go back to my village. That's why I regard myself as a student, not a pandit," he said.
He revealed that his father never used to appreciate his singing. "He used to keep mum. I follow my son's work. Vijay is now 40. A lot of youngsters are doing nice work as singers. These days, facilities have increased by leaps and bounds. There was a time when there would be only one mike and the male and female singers had to sing separately, one after one. Not like today when there are simultaneous tracks," he added.
