In March 2016, the news of a dalit youth Shankar being hacked to death in broad daylight created shock and distress among the people. Shankar who was in love with Kousalya married against  the wishes of her parents for which he was killed while the girl sustained serious injuries.

Pertaining to this, the Tirupur district and sessions court will pronounce the verdict for the case on December 12. Following the harrowing incident, the police had actually filed cases againt 11 people including Kousalya’s parents and arrested them. 

Nine of them were slammed with Goondas Act. It is also notable that the case has been undergoing trial in the court for the past 20 months. With the case’s verdict to be announced on December 12 as said by principal district judge Alamelu Natarajan, TN people and the political fraternity wait for the accused to be given their due judgement.
