Victory Venkatesh has recently wrapped up shooting for the Telugu remake of acclaimed Malayalam thriller Drishyam 2 in Kerala. Titled Drushyam 2, the film introduces Jeethu Joseph, the same filmmaker, who directed the original, as the director in Telugu cinema.
Like Drishyam 2, the latest we hear is that producer Suresh Babu Daggubati is contemplating releasing Drushyam 2 on a digital platform and is planning to approach popular OTT players in the market. The decision comes in the wake of rising COVID-19 cases across Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and the USA.
"After closely monitoring the changing market trends, Suresh Babu is planning to skip theatrical release and is making efforts to go for a direct-to-digital release. He wants to seal the deal before the entire shooting of Drushyam 2 gets completed," says a source close to the development.
We hear, Venkatesh and Jeethu Joseph too didn't have any qualms as they think it's better to release the film on OTT rather than delaying it for a theatrical release. "If everything goes as planned, Drushyam 2's direct-to-digital world premiere would be confirmed shortly," the source adds.
Also starring Meena, Naresh Vijaya Krishna, Nadhiya, Esther and Kruthika, Drushyam 2 has music by Anup Rubens. Besides Drushyam 2, Venkatesh is also shooting for the last leg of Narappa. A remake of Tamil rustic entertainer Asuran, the film is directed by Srikanth Addala.
