Today marks the eighth year since the release of Venkat Prabhu s cult classic Chennai 600028`. Venkat Prabhu was an aspiring actor who had done a couple of films but had no experience of assisting any director. His friend S.P.B Charan had confidence in his abilities and produced the film.

Chennai 600028` served as the launch pad for actors Siva, Nithin Sathya, Jai, Premgi Amaran, Ajay Raj, Arvind Aakash, Vijay Vasanth, Inigo Prabakar, Sampath Raj and Vijayalakshmi among others. Cinematographer Shakthi Saravanan and editors Praveen K.L. and N.B Srikanth found their footing with this movie. When talking about new wave cinema one should not forget that it was Venkat Prabhu`s Chennai 600028` that pioneered the movement in Tamil Cinema.
