After the mega success of 'Marykkundoru Kunjadu' and 'Makeup Man' that came early this year, Shafi is all set to make a hat trick with the new movie with a Shakespearean title-'Venicile Vyaapari'. This is Shafi's fourth Mammootty film after the mega hits, 'Thommanum Makkalum','Mayavi' and 'Chattambinadu'. This is also the fourth film of James Albert who has created hits in 'Classmates','Cycle' and 'Ividam Swargamanu'.

Mammootty will play a trader based on Alappuzha which is called 'Venice of the East'. The film, telling a plot set in 1980's, is about the eventful life of a merchant named Pavithran, who lives in Alappuzha. He worked as a police constable at a certain point of time, due to which he was forced to arrive into the Kuttanad area. He was there to find clues about a murder case as per the instructions of S P Raghuramavarma. But there Pavithran found it more exciting to do the coir business, dropped his job in the police and emerged a lead player in big scale coir manufacture thwarting the leaders of the industry, Chunkathara Raghavan and Alikoya. Mammootty is also reported to have another getup in the movie which is kept as a big secret.

The murder of a labour union leader called Ajayan (Biju Menon) is an important turning point in 'Venicile Vyaapari'. Ammu (Kavya Madhavan), Ajayan's sister, then becomes the leader of the coir workers. It is for the first time that Kavya is playing Mammootty's heroine, though they shared the screen in 'Pattanathil Bhootham' and she is quite thrilled about it. Her character is a popular leader with a definite political stand, a performance-oriented role. Pavithran instantly gets a liking to Ammu, which in fact has made him resign the job of a policeman and to do coir business. Poonam Bajwa plays Lakshmi the manager of the local bank, an independent girl, who is quite bold and often outspoken

Usually period films deal with serious themes, but Shafi is trying to go for a humorous tone with the movie. It will be also interesting to see the union of one of the best Commercial film directors of Malayalam in union with  one of the Best Writers  of current day Mollywood..

Shafi remembers that it was actor Salim Kumar who suggested the title, some years back. This story line was later developed by scenarist James Albert. Since the story was set in Alappuzha, which is known as 'Venice of the East', this title seemed perfect.

Shafi and his cameraman Shamdutt has recreated the feel of the eighties, carefully creating each frames. The actors are all dressed in a multi-coloured shirt with big collars and bell-bottom pants, that was the style of the seventies. Jagathy Sreekumar, Suraj Venjarammoodu,Vijayaraghavan, Suresh krishna, Kripa,Sreeraman, Kalabhavan Shajon,Guiness pakru, Abu Salim, and Janardhanan are also in the cast. The movie has lyrics by Kaithapram which is set to music by BijiBal.'Venicile Vyapari' also feature the remix version of 'Kannum Kannum', shot on Mammootty and Poonam Bajwa which will be one of the highlights of the movie.

'Venicile Vyaapaari' produced by V P Madhavan Nair under the banner of Murali films, will be on theatres by the first week of November as a Bakrid release
