Actor Vemal was last seen on screen in the rural entertainer Kalavani 2 directed by Sarkunam. This movie was the second part of the combo's Kalavani released in 2010 and also starred Oviya, Ilavarasu and Saranya Ponvannan and did not received critical or commercial success.

Next, the actor is having a number of movies like Chozha Naattan, Sandakaari and many more movies and one of his upcoming movies is Kanni Raasi directed by Muthukumaran, who had debuted recently with the Yogi Babu starrer comedy entertainer Dharmaprabhu.

In the pressmeet of Kanni Raasi held recently, Vemal appreciated the team and the movie, and said that he has many comedy sequences with Yogi Babu, Robo Shankar and Kaali venkat in the movie. He also sarcastically remarked at Varalakshmi that though he has acted with many heroines in his career, for the first time he has paired with a male in Kanni Raasi.
