Mahalakshmi, a young woman hailing from Sathuvachary in Vellore District, has been arrested by the police in connection with a criticism of an incumbent Judge that she posted on her Facebook account.
Youths have been taking to social networking sites in huge numbers of late across Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Skype, etc. Though their concern on issues occurring around them is real, they are found wanting in their comments/observation on social networking sites and more often than not, they get into trouble over their own comments and remarks.
Mahalakshmi reported ‘criticized’ some critical observations made by Justice Kirupakaran of the High Court of Madras on the protest indulged in by JACCTO-JIO, a federation containing Tamil Nadu Govt. Employees as well as Teachers working in Govt. Schools in the State. Justice Kirupakaran had raised some thought-provoking questions while directing the striking members of the staff to call of the strike and resume their respective duties at once.
Mahalakshmi’s comments, most of them adverse in nature and seen as against the judiciary, were taken not of by the police after it received complaints in this regard. The police arrested Sathuvachari-based Mahalakshmi yesterday and produced her before a Sessions Court which directed that Mahalakshmi be kept in judicial custody for 15 days.
