The prominent reason for the audio launch of 'Velai Illa Pattadhari 2' happening in the Infinity Mall of Mumbai is to project the well deserved Pan Indian feel for the film since it is being made in Hindi and also includes Bollywood diva Kajol in an important role. The path leading to the auditorium was decorated with posters and banners of 'VIP 2' featuring Dhanush and Kajol is an indication that this is also a direct Hindi film titled 'VIP 2 Lalkar'. Adding to these, a special promotional song featuring Dhanush and Kajol has been exclusively made for the Hindi version. The song that includes effervescent dance of Dhanush and Kajol and also some glimpses from the shooting spot is sure going to become popular among Hindi audiences, especially the youngsters.
Superstar Rajinikanth the father of the film's director Soundarya was expected to grace the event as he is reportedly stationed in Mumbai for the shooting of his upcoming film 'Kaala'. However it did not happen and he was represented by his wife Latha Rajinikanth. The respectful lady of Kollywood inaugurated the event by lighting the traditional Kuthu Vilakku.
The film's cast and crew of Dhanush. Kajol, Amala Paul, Samuthirakani, music director Sean Roldan, Production designer Amit, Producer Thanu and his son Pranthaman were present. Apart from journalists who had flown in from Chennai, the event also attracted the attention of a large number of print, visual and digital media journalists from Mumbai.
The event was well attended by celebrities from Mumbai. The presence of Pahlaj Nihlani, the Chief of Central Board of Film Certification (Censor Board) was a surprise to everyone who expected only Bollywood celebrities to attend the event. Directors Balki and Anand L.Rai who have worked with Dhanush in 'Shamitab' and 'Raanjhanaa' also graced the occasion and blessed the team for the success. The two acclaimed directors, also released the trailer.
The trailer of the film in Tamil and Telugu versions was screened and the audio of all the three language versions was formally launched.
The chief gusts as well as the cast and crew members addressed the gathering.
The first to speak on the dais was Soundarya who has directed her second film after the experimental Motion Capture flick 'Kochadiiyaan' that released in 2014.
"It is a very overwhelming feeling to be here. I Thank Dhanush for being a friend and mentor. I thank Thanu sir for giving this opportunity. I thank Kajol mam for letting me call 'action' and 'cut' for her. I thank my mom for letting me be a working woman by taking care of my son Ved." said Soundarya.
Amala Paul who played the female lead in 'VIP' and has been retained the sequel spoke about how the two films are different for her. "I played a lover in the first part and in the sequel I play Dhanush's wife. I hope that itself would say there is a lot of difference to my character in the sequel. And Soundarya's direction will be a highlight of the sequel and it is was very nice working with her."
The hero of the day, music director Sean Roldan said "I am honoured and privileged to be on this stage. Thanks to Dhanush sir for his continuous encouragement. He has been spreading positive words about me. He has great musical ideas and he contributed to the music department of the film also. I thank him for that. It is not easy fitting in the shoes of my friend Anirudh. Thanks to him for his music in the first part. I also thank my wife and team of musicians without whom I am not what I am."
Roldan also pleased the gathering by singing a couple of lines from 'Iraivanai Thanda Iraiviye' song from 'VIP 2'.
Producer Thanu expressed his confidence over the success of 'VIP 2' in his speech: "I thank Rajinikanth sir for suggesting me such a good script to produce. Our hero cum writer Dhanush is one of the most talented persons in Indian cinema. Kajol mam said to me that this is one of the best movies she has acted.I have seen the film and I am very happy with the output. I am sure that I will meet you all in the Mumbai again for the success celebrations of the film."
The presence of Kajol with her ever charming youthful looks is easily one of the highlights of the event and all the cameramen who had come to cover the event kept clicking her every move.
"I was very nervous to accept this film as I was afraid of speaking Tamil and acting in Tamil. I did not accept any other language film after 'Sapnay' (Minsara Kanavu) because I had to work very hard for uttering the dialogues. Dhanush and Soundarya came to my home and they lied that I speak good Tamil. I thank them for breaking my phobia, breaking the myth that I had in my mind that I can't speak in Tamil. It was an amazing experience working in the film and I did not feel like being at work at all." said Kajol.
Dhanush while speaking once again expressed his admiration for music director Sean Roldan with whom he has teamed up for his debut directorial 'Pa.Paandi' and now for 'VIP 2'.
"Sean Roldan comes from a very very big musical background. But he wanted to stay out the shadow of his grandfather who is a very great writer. He changed his name to Sean Roldan, which took me about three months to pronounce. And he started from the scratch and he made it here. He is a prodigy, he is a musical genius. I can very confidently and happily say that this guy will be the future of Indian music. His knowledge about Carnatic music is unbelievable and unparalleled. And I am very happy and proud and even honoured for having worked with him because history will say that I had worked with him Thank you Sean for honouring this film with your music. Making it much much better than what it was on the paper."
"I thank my producer Thanu sir and Paranthaman sir Without their blind faith and trust in us, 'VIP 2' would not have been what it is today. Thank you Kajol mam. We did not lie to her. We said there are going to be a few Tamil lines and a lot of English lines, which we just changed during the course of the film. But she didn't have to suffer so much. She is very polite. She did the role very convincingly and I think nobody else could have done a better job than her in this role. Thank you so much mam for doing this film, accepting this script. For being Vasundhara on and off sets (laughs). Seriously Thanks so much mam."
"The Director of this film Soundarya made it much bigger than it is on paper. She is really taught me a lot about production design and so many other things such as how to stage a scene. And I am very happy for Soundarya. I am sure this is just a first step for her great career as a director."
