The tragic tale of `Veerabaju' is bloodcurdling. There is so much of sorrows for action hero Vijay in this film that may even make his diehard fans to close their eyes or make them leave their seats.
Director S Mahender known for sober and sentiment films gone extreme in adding lot of troubles for the hero and he misses the logic. He has some aversions to the upper caste it seems. With a pivotal character of grave digger looking at the Brahmin community he digs at every now and then. Is it because the soft natured Brahmin does not create trouble? The same cajoling is done to any other religion the film `Veerabahu' would have been in trouble.
Catching the two parallels in society that is almost like north and south - a grave digger and Brahmin girl the tragic love saga melts any stony heart. But how long the audiences sit in theatres and watch it. The days of fast moments and quick narration has not gone to the senior director head.
Amase (Rangayana Raghu) brings up the abandoned child in the graveyard. As a child named as Veerabahu (is it because his arms are strong) be a part of those who come to the graveyard. He grows up eating what is kept on the grave. Such a fellow Veeru befriend with Devi (Nidhi Subbaiah) in the childhood and expect the same friendship, love and affection as they grow. He is innocent to the core and this is what not Devi. She is educated and her customs and traditions look at persons like Veeru at a distance.
Veeru dreams every now and then of Devi but Amase his father gives him the right advice. Accordingly Veeru goes to tell Devi that he is not going to trouble her but tragic developments director suggests at this point of time becomes very gory. Veeru is framed on wrong charges and sent to Bellary Jail. On the other hand the marriage is on the cards for Devi that too with a wine shop owner.
Veeru knowing that a wrong person is going to be the partner of Devi breaks the jail and takes her from Kalyanmantap. The rest is chase, action and the two protagonists ending life with a long struggle and melodrama.
Vijay is fantastic in action and emotions. But even these two factors are becoming outdated as series of films are action oriented for him. It is time Vijay look for proper stuff in his subjects. Nidhi Subbaiah looks lost in Saree. The close ups are not so good in this film. Rangayana Raghu punchy dialogues written by MS Ramesh earn applauds. Avinash talent is wasted.
V Harikrishna the No1 music director has been able to give only two good tunes. Kariyane ne Kariyodhe Hechche.Bombe Bombe..Ivala Kaiyalle Nane Bombe.
There is enough of struggle in the camera work of Ananth Urs. Some of the top angle shots are treat to watch.
Scoring 6/10
