H. Vasanthakumar MP passes away fighting COVID 19

H. Vasanthakumar the famous businessman turned Congress MP from Kanyakumari has passed away in Chennai after fighting COVID 19. He was admitted to a the Apollo hospital in Chennai on August 10th after testing positive but succumbed to the virus in spite of the intensive care treatment given to him. He is said to have had severe pneumonia and was on a ventilator and ECMO support.

Vasanthakumar was 70 and is survived by his wife Tamilsevli and sons actor Vijay Vasanth, Vinothkumar and daughter Thangamalar. He was the founder of the retail chain Vasanth and Co and belonged to a family of politicians with his elder brother being the senior Congressman Kumari Anandan.

The former Tamil Nadu BJP leader and current governor of AP, Thamizhisai Soundarajan is the niece of Vasanthakumar.
