'Varudu Kaavalenu' is all set to hit the screens on October 29. Debutante director Lakshmi Sowjanya says that the film will strike the right chord with all sections of audience, especially women.
Starring Naga Shaurya and Ritu Varma as the lead pair, the film is produced by Sithara Entertainments. Here is what she has spoken about the movie in her latest interview.
Excerpts:
I did narrate the script to some other hero before we approached Naga Shaurya. But, frankly, I was always sure that Naga Shaurya is the aptest one for the role. He is an ideal person in the film and he has those vibes. He makes a woman of self-respect fall for him. I come from a small-town background and have several specifications for who I should cast. Obviously, the actors too have their set of criteria.
What distinguishes my film from other wedding-oriented movies are the characterizations and the backdrop. The nature of a film changes from the characters who are at the centre. The dialogues won't be the same if two lecturers are in love and two barbers/washermen are in love.
Ritu Varma is seen as a respected businesswoman who is into an eco-friendly business. She respects everyone and commands respect from others. She is 30 and her mother is looking for a groom.
I was just 11 when I appeared for the SSC exams. Back in the late 1990s, one had to reach 15 to write the SSC exam. But I got there early and even attracted newspaper headlines. I developed an interest in cinema even before I joined Degree. When my father wanted to marry me off, I told him I am not interested in a married life. After moving to Hyderabad, I did an Ad and went on to work with the likes of Teja, Sekhar Kammula, Krishna Vamsi, Manjula (Mahesh Babu's sister), Prakash Kovelamudi (K Raghavendra Rao's son), Krish Jagarlamudi and others. I worked on 'Vedam' and 'Anaganaga Oka Dheerudu' simultaneously. I had worked on too many films as an AD. After my father's demise, I had to take a break for two years to be with my mother.
Over the years, I have developed my own style. I have my own identity as a filmmaker. I have worked with male directors. They are usually into thinking about how to show female actors beautifully. As a female, I am concerned with showing male actors handsomely.
I am a good observer. The characters in 'Varudu Kaavalenu' are inspired by my acquaintances. Some subjects interest some directors. I am inclined towards making family films and emotions that can touch everyone. Naga Shaurya's character is educated and is eligible. Ritu Varma's character has her priorities sorted.
Although there are many characters in the film, there are only very few scenes in which family members are seen together in the same frame. The hero's name is Akash, who is an architect. He is particular about getting his designs beautifully. He wants his life to be similarly well-designed.
When you like your job, the struggle becomes a sweet journey. I am passionate about filmmaking. Everyone feels comfortable while working with me because I gel with people very fast. I ensured that the cinematographer (Vamsi Patchipulusu) gave the work I wanted.
While Vishal Chandrasekhar is the composer, I roped in Thaman for 'Digu Digu Naga' because he is best suited for such numbers. The response for the song has been great. Our film has something for both women and men in terms of presenting the perspectives of the two genders.
When we have enough twists in life, why do we need them in a movie as well? When we live with Nature, we are happy to accept it the way it is. Our time passes like a breeze. Watching 'Varudu Kaavalenu' is like that. It's a pleasant film.
Producer China Babu garu is a hero. He lives by his words and ensures that he keeps them come what may. He has been a great pillar of support. It's rare to find someone as passionate about movies. He lives by ethics and is systematic. I am proud of such a film producer. He goes beyond what a hero or director warrants in terms of budget. He invests in movies, not individuals. He has been a great guide. I am here today because of him.
I have written a story that is about the theme of an identity crisis. It's a story revolving around an Aadhar card. I will talk about the cast later.
