The past ten days or so has seen scathing backlash for lyricist Vairamuthu for quoting from a research article that Aandaal was a Deva Dasi.  Although Vairamuthu had rendered an apology people from many quarters especially on the intertnet are still going all guns blazing against him.  Vairamuthu has released a video in which he emotionally clears the air on what is his exact stand and in what context he quoted from the research article.

Vairamuthu at the outset questions the Tamil people around the globe  whether he is at fault for setting out to sing praises of Aandaal, painstakingly conducting researches for the past three months or his decision to speak about her glory at Srivilliputhur her birth place.   He clarifies that his research article is not focussed only on Aandaal but on in which many icons who have served for Tamil literature in  the past three thousand years.  His states that his sole aim is to present on a birds eye view immortal legends beginning from Tholkappiar to the contemporary Tamil scholars to the new, young internet generation.  

Vairamuthu asserts that Deva Dasi is an honor bestowed on the most pure women who prefer to wed the Lord Perumal rather than a mortal.  The researchers too (one of them still alive at 86 years old) were not at fault by stating that and he is also not wrong in quoting them as his intention was not to degrade Aandaal.  He points out that people belonging to a political shaded religion and religion shaded politics are targetting him and he has been wounded badly by it.   The have scissored the word "Deva" and propogated that he called her "Dasi" and others went on to falsely say that he said "Vesi" which means prostitute.

Vairamuthu gets even more emotional in the end stating that the poison from all the unfair attaks against him he will gladly swallow and allow only the nectar and the elixir to be consumed by the Tamil people.  The literary exponent finishes by stating that if his clarification is accepted that means that people have understood him as well as Aandaal correctly.  If anyone's sentiments have been hurt he also regrets it because of his humanity and his deep care that his Tamil should not hurt anyone.

Vairamuthu desparingly states that even after him and his publication Dinamani rendering an apology if the forces with vested interest try to misinterpret and malign him further he is confident that the enlghtended Tamil society will understand him.
