The world Badminton championships saw Indian badminton champion PV Sindhu winning the gold by defeating Japanese player Nozomi Okuhara 21-7, 21-7 in a superb match that lasted just 38 minutes. In the process, PV Sindhu also became the first Indian to win World Championships gold.
Earlier, PV Sindhu had never won the World championships, and she had won a bronze medal in the event in 2013 and 2014, and a silver medal in 2017 and 2018. Sindhu had broke her jinx and won the finals, and said that she dedicates the medal to her mother who celebrated her birthday yesterday.
With many celebrities praising and wishing PV Sindhu, actress Varalaxmi Sarathkumar praised her with a tweet that read "Another strong woman.. breaking all barriers to make us proud @Pvsindhu1 #WorldBadmintonChampionship may U continue to inspire many more women who think they can’t do something..U r a perfect example of how a woman can do anything..U just have to believe in urself congratulations".
