Suriya, who is now one of the leading stars in South Indian cinema is also a much higher rated actor. although he debuted as an actor in Mani Ratnam's 'Nerukku Ner' directed by Vasanth his big break came with 'Nandhaa' directed by Bala. The same combo also gave the memorable 'Pitha Magan' also starring Chiyaan Vikram.

Fans were immensley excited when news came last year that Suriya and Bala have reunited after many years in 'Vanagaan'. The film starring Krithi Shetty as the leading lady went on floors in Kanyakumari and a long schedule of 40 days shooting was conducted. However Suriya who is also producing the film under his banner 2D Entertainment had creative differences with his mentor and the project came to a halt.

While initially Sudha Kongara was involved as creative producer for 'Vanangaan' she had to move to her 'Soorarai Pottru'. Later director A.L. Vijay was also associated with Bala to revive the project. Now after several months rumours broke out that the project was dropped.

However there is a latest update that Suriya and Bala have amicably decided to discard the old story and now a new story is being developed for 'Vanangaan. Sources close to the team have let out that critically acclaimed young director Arun Prabhu Purushothaman of 'Aruvi' and 'Vaazhl' fame is on board now to collaborate with Bala on the project.

It is said that the shooting will begin afresh sometime early next year with the new screenplay devoloped by Bala and Arun. However there is no official word from 2D Entertainment in this regard.

Meanwhile Suriya is gearing up for a long schedule of shooting for his two part magnum opus 'Suriya 42' directed by Siruthai Siva and produced by Studio Green and UV Productions. The film has Disha Patani as the heroine and is set both in contemporary times as well as a period portion 1000 years back.
