‘Vakeel Saab’ Trailer: Taps into Power Star’s unmatchable image

The trailer for ‘Vakeel Saab’, the comeback film featuring Pawan Kalyan as lawyer Satyadev, makes the right noises. Power Star is seen mostly in courtroom scenes and in the action mode for a brief while in the film’s trailer, which suggests that director Venu Sriram is going to tell the story with the right resolve.

Prakash Raj, as Pawan’s opponent lawyer, is most likely to prove to be the right choice. His name, incidentally or otherwise, is Nanda, which was also what his name was in Power Star’s breakout film ‘Badri’. Nivetha Thomas is Pallavi, who is a victim of toxic masculinity. Anjali and Ananya play her roomies, who too have been traumatized by sexual abuse.

The final moments of the trailer, where we see Satyadev asking a male offender whether he is a virgin, are superb. Pawan, unlike Amitabh Bachchan in the Hindi-language original ‘Pink’, is not old and has the knack for getting wittily sardonic. The director seems to have tapped into this image of Power Star.

With dialogues by Thiru, the film has PS Vinod as the director of photography. Special mention has to be made of S Thaman, whose elevation BGM in the trailer is right on the money.

Produced by the Dil Raju-Harshith duo, ‘Vakeel Saab’ will gear up for a grand theatrical release on April 9. If you are a fanboy/fangirl, you know where you have to be on that day.
