Poet Vairamuthu has been receiving flak for his 'Aandal' speech at a function held at Rajapalayam. The bard also has cases filed on him in Chennai and Rajapalayam police stations.
Now Vairamuthu himself had come out with a clarification regarding the same. The poet stated that he had only referenced what a foreign author had stated and that a clear understanding would come by reading his article on Tamizhai Andal.
In addition to this he also explained that Devadasi was a revered title during ancient time which was exclusive to those who fully supplicated themselves for the service of Gods, and the decency of that word has been tarnished only in the modern language.
Stating that he only referenced scholar Narayanan's references in 'Bhakthi Movement in South India' he also said he had treated the subject very highly and he wouldn't tarnish Tamil language and Andal and it was just a misunderstanding.
