MDMK general secretary Vaiko has said that he had no comments to offer on Tamil superstar Rajinikanth’s decision to plunge into active politics and float a political outfit before the next Assembly polls in the State.,
Rajinikanth announced yesterday morning his decision to take a full-fledged plunge into the arena of State’s politics. Millions of his fans across the State went into celebratory mood soon after, bursting crackers and distributing sweets to others.
Rajini stopped short of announcing the name of his political outfit but it is now said that he would do so on the auspicious day of ‘Pongal’ in the second week of this month. Speaking to newsmen in Chennai’s Egmore, Vaiko condemned the efforts made by the Centre to ‘push through’ the hydrocarbon extraction project despite stiff opposition to it from the locals in particular and the State’s population in general.
“I’m not saying so to garner votes; I’m referring to this only for the sake of people’s welfare,” Vaiko asserted. To a specific query about Rajini’s entry into politics, Vaiko said that in a democracy, each citizen had a right to launch a political outfit. He, however, refused to utter specific comments on Rajini’s efforts and added that scribes should not ask him but Rajini as to what he meant by ‘religious politics’.
