The Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai saw a grand felicitation function for Kamal Haasan celebrating his sixtieth year in cinema. Rajinikanth, Ilayaraja, A.R. Rahman, Mani Rathnam, Prabhu, Karthi, Parthiban, Vijay Sethupathi and Vadivelu were among the celebrities at the event.
Vadivelu took the mic after a long time and delivered a fiery speech that had the audience cheering and clapping. He recalled acting in 'Devar Magan' with Kamal and Sivaji Ganesan likening them both to huge tanker lorries while he himself was like a small bicycle caught between them.
Vadivelu shared that while shooting for 'Singara Velan', when he was a nobody in Tamil cinema, Kamal put his hand on his shoulders and offered him the role in 'Devar Magan' and asked him to go to the Raj Kamal Films International office to collect advance. Vadivelu had apparently gone to the office that evening itself and humorously stated that he was afraid that someone else might grab the role.
The Vaigai Puyal's best came when he said that people of the film industry have set a mine of dynamites to trap him and he wondered how many rocket launchers they would have sent against Kamal in the sixty years which he had overcome to stay at the top. Vadivelu said that Kamal's political entry is the need of the hour and that he would pray for his success at the Ayyanaar temple in Paramukudi which is his and Kamal's hometown. All in all Vadivelu participating 'Kamal 60' has indirectly all but confirmed his presence in Kamal's next movie 'Thalaivan Irukinran'.
