Tamil cinema's iconic comedian, Vaigai Puyal Vadivelu, has filed a new defamation lawsuit against his former co-star Singamuthu, marking the latest chapter in their long-standing legal and personal feud. This recent legal action coincides with an ongoing case in the Egmore court, where Vadivelu had earlier sued Singamuthu over the purchase of disputed land in Tambaram.
The duo, once known for their on-screen camaraderie, has not appeared together in films for several years due to personal differences. In his petition, Vadivelu detailed the fallout, stating, "I have been acting in films since 1991, and Singamuthu and I have co-starred in numerous successful movies. However, since 2015, he has been making disparaging remarks about me, leading me to distance myself from him professionally."
Vadivelu also highlighted the ongoing dispute over a piece of land that Singamuthu had helped him acquire, which has since become a matter of litigation. More recently, Vadivelu claims that Singamuthu has been speaking ill of him in interviews with various YouTube channels, causing him significant mental anguish.
In response, Vadivelu is seeking ₹5 crores in damages for defamation and has requested the court to impose a ban on Singamuthu from making further defamatory statements. The case was heard today, with the judge ordering Singamuthu to respond to the petition within two weeks. This high-profile legal battle has garnered huge attention within the Tamil film industry.
