Recently, the Telugu Film Producers Council said that straight Telugu films should be given preference during Sankranthi and Dasara. It was a statement against Thalapathy Vijay's 'Vaarasudu', which is a dubbed film. Although its director (Vamsi Paidipally) and producer (Dil Raju) are Telugu people, the film can't be deemed a Telugu one because they are not shooting a single scene in Telugu.
The anti-'Vaarasudu' stance has angered some quarters in Tamil Nadu. Obviously, the anger is because Vijay is a superstar who will someday get into politics.
As per reports, Naam Tamilar Party's Seeman has warned of retribution if Vijay's movie is thwarted. He said that Tamil-dubbed Telugu films will be targeted if Telugu-dubbed Kollywood films are not encouraged in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Some sections of the Tamil film industry are expected to join the debate.
Meanwhile, Allu Aravind has wondered if it is possible to thwart dubbed movies selectively. Geetha Arts, owned by him, recently released 'Kantara'.
'Waltair Veerayya' starring Chiranjeevi and 'Veera Simha Reddy' starring Balakrishna are in the Sankranthi race. 'Vaarasudu' will compete with them.
