The release of 'Vaarasudu' has been postponed. The Thalapathy Vijay-starring film will hit the screens on January 14, three days after its Tamil original 'Varisu'.
At today's presser in Hyderabad, producer Dil Raju made some interesting comments. The ace producer suggested that he is postponing his movie in the interest of 'Veera Simha Reddy' (January 12th release) and 'Waltair Veerayya' (January 13th release).
Highlights:
Now that we have postponed 'Vaarasudu', the major share of the revenue across territories will go to 'Veera Simha Reddy' and 'Waltair Veerayya'. The first Sankranthi release will get the maximum number of theatres. The second release will get a little less. And the third one, which is my movie, will get an even lesser share.
Both 'Varisu' and 'Thunivu' are being released on the same day (read January 11) in Tamil as per mutual agreement between us. Nobody outside knows what happened behind closed doors. It's my wish that 'Varisu' gets a higher number of theatres in Tamil Nadu. But the fact is that I am not the one releasing the movie there. Someone else is doing it.
Just because I have sold the movie in Tamil, it doesn't necessarily mean I am in the safe zone. Nobody knows the accounts.
The trailer of a movie doesn't decide its long-term fate. Even in the distribution sector, trailers don't play a big role. Big movies get sold much before the trailer is out.
Will 'Varisu' have shows in Hyderabad on January 11? It's a difficult question to answer at this point of time. Nothing is finalized as yet.
A miracle might happen at the BO. 'Kantara' was released on September 30 in Kannada. In other languages, it was released two weeks later. 'Love Today' was released much later in Telugu after Tamil. It made Rs 7 Cr (share) in Telugu. Same might happen with 'Vaarasudu' if a miracle happens.
Since our movie is releasing on January 14, Thalapathy Vijay garu might make it to Hyderabad to promote the movie. In Tamil itself, he promotes his movies in a very limited manner.
Controversies are transient. Anything that I speak has been milked for controversies. At the end of the day, the content of my film does the talking. I don't harm anybody. I believe in content.
Nobody in the industry is saying that 'Vaarasudu' must be postponed and removed from the Sankranthi season. Will you want RC15 to be released in Telugu only and at a later date in Tamil? The film business involves a lot of risk. I am staking a lot. I am letting the movies of Balakrishna garu and Chiranjeevi garu occupy primacy this season.
'Kalyanam Kamaneeyam' from UV Concepts will be released on January 14 itself. It won't be postponed.
When the 'Shatamanam Bhavati' trailer was released, many commented that it looked like a TV serial. Wait for 'Vaarasudu' to come out first. We haven't shown everything in the trailer. There is much more in the movie. It's a package.
We at Sri Venkateswara Creations are working on stories for several Tamil heroes like Ajith garu, Suriya garu, Kamal Haasan garu and others. If something interesting comes up, they will be pitched to the actors.
