We must say that Director Sargunam has a nose for music. His first venture 'Kalavani' had songs by S S Kumaran that topped the charts. So expectations are high on his next 'Vaagai Sooda Vaa'. The movie has music by newcomer Gibran. Supposedly a period flick, the songs resemble the music culture of 1960s and 1970s and melody dominates the album. Sung by a host of newcomers besides Chinmayee, the album is sure to rock once the movie is released. Check out how Gibran has fared. 1. Senga Solla Kaara - Listen here Singer: Anitha This song that has lyrics by Vairamuthu has rich soft vocals by Anitha. It has everything a music-lover would want to listen to. With a good orchestration, the song is pleasant start to the album. 2. Sara Sara Saarakaathu - Listen here Singer: Chinmayee Vairamuthu is at it again, penning the lyrics. Stylishly rendered by Chinmayee, the song has a set pattern of flow of music. It has simple lyrics but comes with a crafty tune by Gibran. The song is cool and catchy on the whole. 3. Thanjavuru Maadathi - Listen here Singer: Jayamurthy Penned by Ve Ramaswamy, this is a short one with an excellent retro-feel effect. Jayamurthy renders it in a unique style of communicating with the listeners. It reminds one of songs that we often heard in the 1980s. 4. Poraney Poraney - Listen here Singers: KG Ranjith, Neha Bhasin Penned by Karthik Netha, the song has been effectively rendered by K G Ranjith and Neha Bhashin. Gibran goes for a unique tune that is striking and racy. Catchy in parts, if the song is seen with visuals, it might create an impact. 5. Thaila Thaila - Listen here Singer: Rita Ve Ramaswamy's simple lyrics is the movie's hallmark. Again a quickie, the song is beautifully rendered by Rita. The simple tune and neat orchestration makes the song click. Gibran's penchant for different sounds is evident. 6. Aana Aavana - Listen here Singers: Lisbon International, Orchestra and Children's Choir Written by Vairamuthu, the fact that the song is sung by Lisbon International, Orchestra and Children's Choir garners all attention. Set in symphonic style, the number is interesting. It's a situational song. The hallmark of this track is the fact that tots have crooned it. On the whole, 'Vaagai Sooda Vaa' is a vintage music album. It is sure to take one to the golden days of Tamil cinema (1970s and 1980s). Three cheers to Gibran.. |
