Karronya Katrynn awaits the release of 'Utthara', a village-based romantic-actioner directed by SR Thirupathi. Starring also Sreeram, Ajay Ghosh and Abhay Bethiganti, this one has music by Suresh Bobbili.
In this interview, Karronya talks about her journey so far, her character in 'Utthara', why she wants to become an IAS officer and more.
What is your background? How did you get into movies?
I am a Telugu-speaking girl who hails from Chittoor district. I have been settled in Hyderabad and am currently taking coaching for IAS exam. It's my dream to see myself as a Savitri-like actress. My family members want me to become an IAS officer. I have participated in reality dance shows and used to act as a child artist (in 'Dana Veera Soora Karna', 'Pelli Pusthakam', etc). I have been part of several serials as well, such as 'Ramulamma', which was a turning point in my career. 'Bangari Balaraju' was my first outing. I am a classical dancer who has been awarded by the President of India. I have received two Nandi awards, for 'DVSK' and 'Ramulamma'.
Tell us about your character in 'Utthara'.
This one is a pure love story. I have played a young woman who motivates her boyfriend to do something in life. How does she motivate him? Many beautiful women are full of themselves. I am like that.
How was it working with director SR Thirupathi?
The director is sensible and you will see Sekhar Kammula-type sensibilities in the movie. He is realistic and doesn't create fake situations. He searches for beauty in real locations; he wants the frames to capture the locations as they are. He doesn't want them sanitized for consumption.
What are your upcoming movies?
I am doing two Telugu movies and a Tamil movie.
