A teenage girl in Uttar Pradesh's Meerut district was shot dead by her stalker just two days before her wedding. The girl's father and brother were shot as well. Her brother is being treated in a hospital while her father succumbed to his injuries.
The incident happened in the Transport Nagar area of Meerut on June 27 and the accused has been identified as Saagar Thakur. The victims have been identified as 19-year-old Anchal and her father Rajkumar. Anchal died on the spot right after the bullet hit her while her father died during treatment. "The accused Saagar and his accomplices reached the girl's house around midnight and began firing indiscriminately at the victims' family members. Anchal and two other family members were directly hit while others ran for safety," an investigating official reportedly stated. Police have arrested two accused involved in the case while the main accused, Saagar, is absconding. "We have arrested two accused Neeraj and Prince. Efforts are on to arrest other accused," the official added. The victim's elder brother reportedly said, "The accused Saagar wanted to marry Anchal, but she had rejected him. On June 27 night, Saagar, his five friends including Rohit and Ankit reached our house on motorbikes and started pressurising us for marriage. Later, they opened fire."
An FIR has been registered against the accused under sections 302 (murder) 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and other sections of SC/ST Act (Prevention of Atrocities).
