A woman in Uttar Pradesh has moved the consumer court seeking a compensation of Rs. 1 crore after she was served a non-vegetarian pizza despite ordering a vegetarian one at an American restaurant in Ghaziabad.
Citing the arduous and expensive rituals she needs to undeego to undo the damage, the woman, identified as Deepali, has demanded the sum. She also claimed that she was a pure vegetarian because of her "religious beliefs, teachings, family traditions, own conscience, and her best choice" but ended up consuming a bite of the meat pizza. When Deepali's lawyer contacted the customer service of the restaurant and informed them of the "gross negligence," the district manager of the outlet offered to provide pizzas to Deepali's whole family, free of cost. However, the woman was not convinced. Her petition read, "That the opposite party’s negligent manner of performance has contaminated complainant body with food mixed with animal meat that was acquired by killing and cutting short the life given by God to any animal."
The lawyer added, "In her religious belief killing any animal and eating its meat is a "paap" (sin). The opposite party has a deceitfully involved complainant in that sin of eating animal meat. They have wounded her soul giving her mental agony for her whole life. They have ravaged her religious belief." The restaurant has been asked to file a reply to the woman’s complaint and the next hearing has been scheduled on March 17.
