A man from Uttar Pradesh's Bareilly has been booked after he and his father physically assaulted the former's wife and mother-in-law.
The accused, identified as Mohammed Ashfaq, had married Chand Bi a year ago, when the woman's parents, Gantha Rehman and Gulshan, gave the man's family a dowry of Rs. 10 lakh. After Chand Bi gave birth to a female child, Ashfaq and his family demanded another 5 lakh. When Rehman failed to comply, Ashfaq and his father thrashed Chand Bi, following which her parents rushed to their house.
That was when Ashfaq bit Gulshan's nose and his father chopped off her ear before the duo absconded. Meanwhile, Gulshan, who had fallen unconscious, was rushed to the hospital along with Chand Bi and are currently receiving treatment.
An FIR has been registered at Bareilly Cantonment police station under IPC sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by a dangerous weapon) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of trust), according to a report from a news agency. The police are on the lookout for the accused men.
