In a heartbreaking incident, a teenage boy and his sister uploaded a video on social media threatening to take their own lives after their father died by suicide.
In the video that was uploaded on Tuesday, the siblings, who hail from Uttar Pradesh's Aligarh, had mentioned that they would kill themselves in two days if the people who pushed their father to suicide are not nabbed by the police. The children's lost their mother in 2005 while their father took his own life by consuming poison on August 3 after being harassed over financial issues. The 38-year-old man was employed as a teacher at the Sri Gandhi Smarak Inter College of Aligarh, where the principal and clerk allegedly demanded Rs. 2 lakh from him to pay his full salary and also refused to let him mark the attendance. The victim then paid them Rs. 1 lakh, but when the men continued to harass him, he reportedly decided to end his life. "Sharma got the job in 2007 in place of his father who had died. Sharma told me before death that the principal and the clerk were harassing him and constantly demanding money," the victim's relative reportedly told a news agency.
The police registered a case against the accused under section 306 (abetment to suicide) of the Indian Penal Code a day after the incident but as no action had been taken against the men, the children decided to upload the video on social media. Claiming that the matter is being investigated, a senior official reportedly stated, "I spoke to the children and told them about the ongoing investigation. I have assured them that those responsible for it will be arrested."
