A 30-year-old doctor was arrested after he was found guilty of attempting to sexually assault a woman infected with the novel coronavirus.
The incident has been reported from Aligarh's Deen Dayal Hospital in Uttar Pradesh and the police began inquiry after the woman complained to the authorities regarding the alleged rape attempt. "We received a complaint from a woman patient admitted at Deen Dayal Hospital alleging that a doctor sexually assaulted her within the hospital premises. A police team was sent to the hospital The doctor, who himself was in quarantine, was arrested. The woman, who works in Delhi, had apparently come to Aligarh during the lockdown and got herself admitted to the hospital on Monday after observing Covid-19 symptoms, where she tested positive for the virus. The police obtained CCTV footage from the hospital where the doctor, identified as Tufail Ahmad, was seen entering the isolation ward where the woman was placed. On the pretext of medical examination, the woman was allegedly sexually assaulted by him twice.
A case has been registered against the accused doctor under section 354 (molestation) and 376 (2) (advantage of position to commit rape) at the local police station. He was arrested and has been remanded in judicial custody.
