Is America in for a huge Coronavirus problem, more than even China? If some data and expert commentary are to be believed, the answer is a big 'yes'.
According to CNN Health’s tally of the number of corona positive cases in the US, there are at least 65,273 cases of the novel coronavirus in the country. So far, 938 people have died.
Sharing a graph, Dr. Dena Grayson says, "COVID19 cases in the US continue to explode, as I predicted over a month ago. The number of new coronavirus cases is DOUBLING nearly every two days. This likely is due to more testing and exponentially fast viral spread. Expect this trend to continue for several more weeks."
If this is not dire enough, what Andy Slavitt says is equally dismal. "Half the world’s cases are now in the US, Spain and Italy. Soon half the cases will be in the US. And then more. Right now, our trajectory looks worse than other countries. And our survival rate projections are concerning."
Black Lives Matter activist Shaun King has said that experts are confident that the United States will likely overtake Italy by end of Thursday in total coronavirus cases. "It had been expected to next week sometime. The US will likely surpass China in a few days," he writes.
What is the way out?
"More could die from lack of access to a bed or a nurse or a ventilator than necessary. The shelter-in-place restrictions make absolute sense. They are working in New York," Slavitt says.
