Donald Trump quashes Obama's 'Clean Power Plan'

US President Donald Trump on Tuesday undid Barack Obama's Clean Power Plan that aimed to curb carbon emissions in a vow to fight Global Warming.

Trump signed the executive order revoking the former President's policy, and gave his statement at the Environmental Protection Agency Headquarters that his "Energy Independence" order will kickstart a new era of energy production.

The new order directs the EPA to undo regulations from the 'Clean Power Plan' that curbed carbon and methane emissions. Greenhouse gases like Carbon di oxide and methane primarily contribute to climatic change. With the roll-back, energy production will be more from fossil fuels, thereby catalysing global warming.

While the move was naturally welcomed by coal miners and coal company executives who flanked the President at the HQ, environmentalists and energy analysts believe otherwise. A coalition by 23 states and local governments has opposed the new order and has declared to fight it at the Federal Court. Trump, however, believes it to be a "historic step" that not only does good for energy production but also facilitates new jobs.

This is by far the boldest move that the Trump Govt. has come up with to counter environmental regulations that were part of his promise during the 2016 Presidential campaign. Trump's policy that seeks to void the former President's plan calls not just the country's economy in question, but also the global warming threat it poses.
