After US President Donald Trump was caught fidgeting and moving his hands, pretending to conduct the band while the national anthem was playing at his Super Bowl LIV watch party at the Trump International Golf Club in Florida, he has been on the receiving end of criticism for evidently disrespecting the anthem.

As Demi Lovato’s rendition of 'The Star Spangled Banner' is playing, Trump's wife Melania and son Barron are seen standing with their left hands over their hearts, while Trump waves his hands and pretends to conduct an orchestra. Throughout his time as the president, Trump has repeatedly mentioned that all Americans should proudly stand during the national anthem and offer respect to it. He has even slammed athletes of the country who kneeled during the anthem as a form of protest against police brutality and social injustice. In June 2018, Trump had stated, "When you're in a stadium and they broadcast that national anthem, you've got to stand, and you've got to be proud and you've got to have your hand up and you got to do everything that's right."

American singers Beyonce and Jay-Z were recently caught up in a similar controversy after they remained in their seats when Demi Lovato performed her rendition of the national anthem at the Hard Rock Stadium.
