US President Donald Trump, who is infamous for losing his cool with journalists on several occasions, had yet another verbal altercation with CNN White House correspondent Jim Acosta during a press conference on Tuesday that was held in Delhi, India, as part of his two-day visit.
Trump answered a series of questions during the press conference, ranging from his plans with India, the upcoming US elections, Iran, etc. When Acosta asked Trump if he would pledge to reject any foreign interference in the upcoming presidential polls, Trump responded that he does not want any help from any foreign country and never required it in the past. Acosta further questioned Trump about his appointment of a new acting Director of National Intelligence who apparently doesn't hold any intelligence experience.
When Trump retorted by mentioning that CNN reportedly apologized once for reporting false information, Acosta shot back at him, claiming that their channel's record of delivering the truth was a lot better than Trump's sometimes. The conversation between Trump and Acosta went as follows -
Trump - "Didn't they (CNN) apologize for the fact that they said some things that weren't true?"
Acosta - "Mr. President, I think that our record on delivering the truth is a lot better than yours sometimes, if you don't mind me stating."
Trump - "Let me tell you about your record. Your record is so bad you ought to be ashamed of yourself."
Acosta - "I'm not ashamed of anything and our organisation is not ashamed."
Trump concluded the verbal spat by accusing CNN of having the worst record in broadcasting. The US President, along with his wife Melania Trump, arrived in Ahmedabad on Monday for the first leg of his maiden visit to India. The two-day trip, that also included his visits to Agra and Delhi, aimed at reinvigorating ties between the world's biggest democracies that have been strained by trade rows.
