Santosh Sivan's cinematographical marvel, 'Urumi', will be screened at the NHK Asian Film Festival in Japan. The film, released in August 2011, was originally made in Malayalam and subsequently dubbed in Telugu, Tamil and Hindi. The South Indian film was set in the 15th century and Vasco Da Gama's expedition of Kerala formed the backdrop of the story.
A mix of both fact and fiction, 'Urumi' stars Prithvi, Prabhu Deva, Genelia D'Souza, Jagathy Ravikumar in the main cast. Lauded by critics, it was also lapped up by the lovers of historical-fantasy films.
Made a big scale, it starred Vidya Balan, Tabu and Arya in cameos. The dialogues, written in neat prose, are a piece de resistance of the film.
Its international stature was a foregone conclusion.
