After a brief interval, director Ravichandran is back to render a romantic entertainer in Urchagam. The film begins on a promising note with vibrant visuals backed by a brisk narration.
Love, romance and friendship dominated the first half. Alas, when it ends, it loses all the steam and the curtains fall on a tame note.
Ravichandran has tried his hand at a youthful entertainer and living up to the storyline are Nandha and Sherin. Both has understood the intricacies of the script and given their best shot.
Nandha promises a lot. Unlike his earlier films, he has presented himself in a different way. There is marked improvement in his body language, dialogue delivery and screen presence. He reminds one of Suriya in Nandha. Oozes with energy all through the film.
Sherin is bubbling with enthusiasm. Hitherto a glamour doll in Kollywood, Sherin has tried her hands in a role that demands a bit of performance. Emotions come easily for her. Vivek has added variety to the script. His humor in the lines of his much earlier Run doesn't fail to tickle the funny bone among the audience.
The film revolves around Jency (Sherin), who is a close friend of Ganesh (Nandha). When Ganesh decides to open his heart and express his love to her, she informs him that she would be engaged to Nicholas (Dinesh Lamba), who is a rich entrepreneur in London.
Nicholas sponsors for Jency's mother's surgery. Known very well that Nicholas is a jealous and sadistic youth, Jency decides to marry him as a token of gratitude. But life turns miserable for her between her engagement and her wedding. Ganesh steps in and saves her from all troubles. Ganesh and Nicholas cross swords with each other.
Who emerge victorious forms the climax.
Remember Ranjit Barot. He created ripple with his musical score in VIP, a few years ago. He back with same energy to come up with a musical delight in Urchagam. His songs and background score form backbone of the movie.
Certainly there are no punch dialogues or crass comedy. Urchagam promises a different film until the climax. It ends like any other film with the hero and villain fighting against each other.
GV Films deserves a pat for producing a different film amidst commercial cliches.
Ravichandran's showed immense potential in Kannedhirae Thondrinaal. Sadly he has failed to live up to it in Urchagam. Forget the flaws, Urchagam is certain to provide a joyous experience for the audience.
