Himank Bansal, a student belonging to a private college in Hyderabad, was on November 1 assaulted by his seniors, who allegedly forced him to chant 'Alla Hu Akbar'. The incident came to light today. There is this view that the mainstream media didn't report the incident deliberately.
The accused have been booked by the Hyderabad police for ragging under IPC Section 307, which is an attempt to murder as well as Sections 323, 450 and 506 for criminal intimidation.
The issue has been highlighted by some political activists and functionaries. "Himank Bansal studying in IFHE Hyderabad assaulted and forced to chant 'Allah Hu akbar' on campus by senior students of another religion. IFHE comes under the Hyderabad parliamentary constituency of Owaisi but not a single word by him yet! Also, no media reporting this matter," tweeted BJP leader Vishnu Vardhan Reddy.
Civil society is also slowly reacting to the incident on Saturday. Wrote political commentator and scientist Anand Ranganathan, "Wish I could unsee that horrific video of Himank Bansal, the Hyderabad law school student being assaulted. Spine-chilling beyond measure. If what he has alleged in his complaint letter, and his quote in there, is true, he must be provided immediate protection."
