Twitter has removed the blue badge from Vice-President of India Venkaiah Naidu's personal verified account. This move has shocked many.
At the time of writing, the official account of the Vice-President continues to enjoy the blue badge status.
When the news first came out, several Netizens argued that Naidu hasn't tweeted anything since July 2020 and that's why the micro-blogging site decided to withdraw the blue badge. However, several accounts have continued to enjoy the blue badge status even though they haven't had any activity for years. Soumyadipta, a journalist, pointed out that the official Twitter handle of the Hindi movie 'Padmaavat' is a blue-tick account despite the fact that the last activity from the handle was registered way back in 2019.
'Friends Of RSS', a handle maintained by well-placed RSS activists, has claimed that the blue badge of several RSS functionaries has been withdrawn in recent days.
There is an uproar over Twitter's arbitrary behaviour. There is a view that Twitter is targeting the Hindutva wing and the NDA government in different ways to snub them. Amidst all this, several Netizens are demanding that Twitter be banned in India before it goes completely berserk.
