The third regional version of 'Munna Bhai MBBS' in Kannada is good in bits and pieces. Director D.Rajendra Babu claiming credit for screenplay is unexpected. When it is frame to frame remake where is the need to claim credit for screenplay?. Even for direction the seniors like D.Rajendra Babu should claim the credit as 'Arranger' or 'Organiser'. That makes more sense.
However this Upendra starring Uppi Daada MBBS is very loud and lack the tempo of cool cinema. It was not like this from Sanjay Dutt when he made ' Munna Bhai MBBS'. The dialogues of Upendra are like shouting in a city market. The two songs in the hospital premises with in-patient surrounding could have been thought in a better way. The decency, the clamness and decorum of the hospital should not be brought to the situation of fish market.
Uppi a hired Goonda in the company of his friends is startled to know the arrival of his father Rao Bahaddur the respected landlord in the village. He develops his dungeon to a hospital to keep his parents 'dilkush'. Very soon Uppi is caught by the dean of the medical college. The estranged parents leave the place wiping tears. This tears actually transform Uppi to take up medical entrance examination. He somehow blackmail an important lecturer in the medical college and gets entry to MBBS. In the college campus he is treated shabbily but Uppi gives them back with sheer humanity in looking at the patients. He even wins the heart of Dr.Uma (who is Chinnu not disclosing her childhood identity with Uppi on the insistence of her father who is the Dean of the medical college). Finally Uppi is put to the acid test by the Dean. A day before this Uppi had seen the death of a humble patient in his hospital. In complete emotions he declares that he has duped everyone to achieve this status. That is not all. Uppi's humanity is understood by everyone including the patient who has not reacted for any medicine from last 12years at last. His childhood friend Chinnu who is Dr.Uma finally reverses her stand and agree to marry Uppi.
The undecurrent "service to humanity is service to god" - arthath serve with humanity is the focal issue of the film is well thought.
Upendra has done very well in emotional scenes. He could have controlled his dialogue delivery that is sharp and rude than knifes and scissors of the operation theatre. Uma the famous Tamil and Malayalam actress has been apt. Gurudutt as 'cirkit' gathers good attention. Ananthnag has acted like a buffoon. Sanketh Kashi is convincing.
The songs are very badly tuned by Patyanak. Camera work of Ramachandra is at times disturbing to the eyes.
Verdict - 6/10
