Uppena to influence a change in portrayal of magathanam?

In one of the early scenes of 'Uppena', a Biology teacher is seen giving spiritual meaning to masculinity even as a pencil diagram of the male genital is seen in the backdrop. The delicate scene was handled well in the film and director Buchi Babu Sana has come in for praise.

The 'magathanam' reference is integral to the story of the film. Many are of the view that the film is going to spark a change in the way masculinity is projected in Telugu movies. A number of Netizens have felt that toxic masculinity will give way to healthy masculinity in our movies now that 'Uppena' is on its way to becoming a blockbuster.

Actor-director Rahul Ravindran feels that 'Uppena' is an important film for the reason that its climax will hopefully be remembered for long. "The fight to dismantle toxic masculinity and patriarchy may have been started by women. But eventually, all of us men, who are constantly suffocated by social constructs, will be the biggest beneficiaries. 'Uppena' is a telling contribution to that changing narrative," the 'Chi La Sow' maker says.

Starring Panja Vaisshnav Tej, Krithi Shetty and Vijay Sethupathi, 'Uppena' on Friday collected more than Rs 10 Cr (share) across the world.
