Flood expected, updated Orange Book of Disaster Management  launched

As the state of Kerala is preparing to face yet another heavy monsoon season that is likely to touch Kerala shores on May 31, the government of Kerala has launched the updated 'Orange Book of Disaster Management'.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had warned about a twin low pressure over south-east and east-central parts of the Arabian sea, the state is expected to receive rainfall earlier than expected. As there is already an alarming spread of Coronavirus in the state, this time, the management of relief camps and everything else had to be altered. Considering this, detailed guidelines for the management in the backdrop of COVID-19 in the state have been updated in the book.

kerala floods 2019Kerala's Revenue Minister E Chandrasekharan released the updated 'Orange book of disaster management - Kerala - Standard operating procedures and emergency support functions plan' and the 'Monsoon preparedness and emergency response plan'.

The state had witnessed the worst floods of the century in the 2018 monsoon and also huge landslides in 2019 monsoon. And so, this year, the state has strictly devised plans to deal with the monsoon menace along with fighting pandemic.
