In his latest podcast, Puri Jagannadh has said that every family has to produce a farmer. He spoke in favour of the massification of Vertical Farming.
"We can grow vegetables easily through Verticle Farming using different techniques. Hydroponics works without the need for soil. Aeroponics works in a controlled environment. You can grow vegetables on your terrace or in the parking lot with a little amount of water and no pesticides. Learn to do Vertical Farming with the help of companies in the line of business," Puri said.
"There will come a time when we will find it impossible to find food unless cultivated land grows by 70%. At the rate at which population is growing presently, we will be saddled with a population of 10 billion in just two decades," Puri added.
"We will each need an acre of land for each of our kids to be able to sustain themselves. The cultivated land in India is larger than that in the US and China. Yet, it's inadequate. We all have to become farmers. There is a need for a farmer to be born in each household," the 'Fighter' director pontificated.
Puri opined that farmers are not able to do vertical farming for different reasons. "Every village has to start practising vertical farming and the government has to do it by establishing the required infrastructure. If the government doesn't wake up now, we will not have anything to eat two decades from now," Puri said, leaving us wondering from where he has picked up this 'wisdom'.
