Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad today said in Mumbai that the Indian economy is doing well and that it's proved by the collections that 'WAR' and 'Sye Raa' earned on October 2. Without taking the names of the films, the BJP leader quoted their box-office collections.
"On 2nd October, three movies were released. Film trade analyst Komal Nahta recently told me that the national holiday saw an earning of over Rs 120 Cr, which is a record. The economy of the country is sound. That is why there was a return of Rs 120 Cr in just one day," Prasad controversially said. 'Sye Raa' did a massive Rs 38 Cr in the Telugu States on Gandhi Jayanti. 'WAR', starring Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff, opened to more than Rs 50 Cr (nett BOC) in India.
Critics are of the view that people watch movies all the more when there is recession or depression in the economy. It seems the BJP leader has shot himself in the foot by showing the collections of the movies as evidence that the economy is not facing headwinds.
