The Telangana High Court has given a rap on the knuckles of the Telangana government for its conducting fewer COVID-19 tests. In the wake of news reports that Telangana is among the worst States in India in terms of poor reporting, the HC asked, "What its strategy to curb the spread of coronavirus in the State?"
The HC bench said, "Without testing, there is no way to know the extent of the spread of the virus... Why did the Telangana government decide to decrease the number of tests done per day?"
The Court also wanted to know on what basis the testing of dead bodies for Covid-19 has been stopped.
The government will have to file a detailed report on the questions raised by the HC soon. The next hearing is slated to be held on May 14.
The court made the observations and asked the questions after Prof. PL Vishweshwar Rao of the TJS filed a PIL recently.
