Unapproved construction on ECR: HC serves notices on Kamal and 130-odd

The High Court of Chennai has served notices on actor-turned-politician Kamal Hasaan and 137 others seeking explanation on constructing unapproved premises on East Coast Road on the city’s outskirts.
Ranganathan of Chennai had earlier sought permission from Corporation of Chennai (COC) to construct a luxury Resort on ECR to which he was denied permission by COC. Ranganathan later moved the High Court of Chennai requesting the Court to direct the COC to accord permission for his proposed construction of a resort.
When his petition was taken up for interrogation, the fact that many celebrities including Kamal Haasan and Ramya Krishnan had constructed illegal premises (without getting proper permission) at various places on ECR Road.
Following this, the Court directed that notices be served on Kamal, Ramya Krishnan and 136 others besides the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) to respond in this regard. The next hearing in the case has been postponed to 09th April.
