Hyderabad is definitely in a bad shape with the number of COVID-19 cases rising with each day. With each passing day, the number of people dying to this deadly disease is also seeing a hike.
It is known that the funeral of these bodies has become one of the biggest problems now. The sad truth is that finding a piece of land to bury the flesh has become beyond impossible now.
Something similar has happened in Hyderabad the other day. Overcrowded graveyards and failure in finding a fresh cemetery is forcing many Christians in Telangana to cremate the bodies of their loved ones
There have been several such instances in recent times within the community. Christians do not cremate the bodies. They bury them. And with the unavailability of land to bury, they are left with no choice other than cremating, which is against their custom.
Talking to a leading Hyderabad based new daily, G Solomon Raj of the Christian Burial Grounds of Greater Hyderabad said, “We had to cremate two bodies in Erragadda area in the last 10 days as we could not find a piece of land for burying them.
He further said that small and independent churches have been facing the same problems for the past few years and that in the last couple of years, several bodies have been cremated.
There are several cemeteries in Greater Hyderabad, belonging to various denominations of Christians but the burial space has almost exhausted. Families of the dead are requesting the authorities to sort out the issue as soon as possible.
