A senior Indian official in the United Nations has been fired for alleged sexual harassment complaints on him. Ironically, Ravi Karkara had the responsibility of promoting gender equality and youth partnerships at the UN Women.
He was also investigated for over a year pertaining to sexual harassment with colleagues. Executive Director of UN Women Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka made the official decision to sack Karkara. She also further said that Karakara will not have diplomatic immunity in this case.
Reportedly Karkara was accused of grabbing a man’s private parts, obscene gestures, sending pornographic links and indecent images to his colleagues. Even though Karkara doesn’t have a diplomatic immunity it remains to be seen how the prosecution will happen further. Reportedly 8 men have filed complaints on the high ranking Indian official.
