Kamal Haasan apart from being an actor par excellence is also a great screenwriter who is ahead of his times. Starting from 'Guru' which released in 1980 he has written almost thirty films including blockbusters 'Michael Madana Kamarajan', 'Apoorva Sagodharargal', 'Devar Magan', 'Kurudhipunal', 'Panchathanthiram', 'Dasavatharam' and 'Vishwaroopam' and its sequel. His well paced political entry too reads just like one of his succesful screenplays.
Any good script would, in the beginning tease the viewers of something big to come and that is exactly what Kamal did by starting to tweet in cryptic chaste Tamil in which there were veiled attacks on the ruling party and especially Sasikala faction. The first show of heroism was when he took on Subramaniya Swamy for calling out Tamils as "porkkis" (rogues) and severely attacking Sasi when she was arrested.
The unexpected twist came when Kamal accepted to host the 'Bigg Boss' show many thought it as a step down from his stature and the initial episodes werent that flattering to him either. But the learner he is he effected a major turnaround and captured the imagination of the younger generation scoring a huge brownie point.
The next red herring he threw is by courting news channels and forcing the media to speculate on his political entry and they sweated it out to conduct polls in which his stock definitely showed an upward curve and in a few even beating his friend and rival Rajinikanth.
By now the viewers of the Kamal movie that played out not in theaters but on laptops and mobile phones were hooked to him and they started rooting for this hero who is pitted against many powerful opponents. Many still felt and still feel he does not have a chance. That is when the Ulaganayagan spiced it up by courting various politcians (Read Kejriwal, Mamtha, Vijayan, Naidu) around the country who are seen as the alternatives to the more powerful. Now the hero seems to have the support of a few character actors.
An unexpected turnaround that Kamal then threw was by going into the dens of the lions that is his rivals including Kalaigniar, Rajini, Vijayakanth, Seeman and others before his much anticipated bow.
Time for the interval block and there in his South tour the people of Ramanathapuram, Manamadurai, Rameshwaram and Madurai gave him a thunderous response and his very stage was like a movie set that people have never witnessed before. His short speech did not reveal his entire plan and thus the suspense lingers as to what he plans to do in the future. The audiences are left with breathless anticipation as the villains who also do not have a clue are fuming and fussing around.
Kamal the great screenwriter (unsung though), will surely script an edge of the seat nail biting second half which will reach the climax in 2021 and whether it turns out to be a happy or sad ending he will make sure that he wins hearts.
