With at least 15,000 Indian nationals stranded in war-hit Ukraine, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today firmed up his government's resolve to bring them back to India. As per government sources quoted by ANI, the PM called a high-level meeting on the ongoing crisis, made hostile by Russia's adamant attitude.
As per the news agency, a few Union Ministers will be deputed to Ukraine's neighboring countries. They will be tasked to coordinate the evacuation of our students.
The agency named Hardeep Singh Puri, Jyotiraditya Scindia, and Kiren Rijiju as three of the Union Ministers who have been deputed for the job. Gen (Retd) VK Singh will also be there.
So far, about 2,000 students have been brought back to India from Ukraine as part of Operation Ganga. Foreign Secretary Harsh V Shringla said that the entire cost of the evacuation is being done at the government's expense. For each trip, Rs 1.10 Cr is estimated to be spent.
In a sad turn of events, scores of Indian citizens are facing the wrath of hostile Ukrainian citizens and cops because India recently abstained from voting against Russia's invasion of Ukraine in the UNSC.
