UK Minister Kemi Badenoch Responds to David Tennant's Criticism at LGBT Awards

Bold comments made by former Doctor Who star David Tennant during his victory speech at the British LGBT Awards attracted media attention. Receiving the Celebrity Ally award, Tennant spoke for LGBTQ rights while denouncing Kemi Badenoch, the Minister for Women and Equalities from the United Kingdom.
Emphasizing that everyone should have the right to live as they wish, Tennant expressed his annoyance with the requirement to award fundamental human decency and underlined that nobody should be harmed by their choices. Then he pointed his criticism at Badenoch, implying he wanted her to lack a forum to express her provocative opinions on sex and gender.
Badenoch responded angrily to his remarks, accusing Tennant of trying to muzzle her and underlining the irony of targeting the sole black woman in administration. Tennant was also attacked by J.K. Rowling and Martina Navratilova, who claimed him to be a misogynistic and entitled guy.
Just days before Britain's General Election, the debate exploded with the Conservative Party pledging to make biological sex a protected attribute covered by the Equality Act. Badenoch supported this promise, saying it sought to guard the vulnerable without violating trans people's dignity or privacy.
Both political extremes found criticism in Tennant's comments. Criticizing Tennant's request for silence, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak underlined the value of free speech. While Labour chief Sir Keir Starmer stressed the need for polite political speech, Home Secretary James Cleverly demanded an apology.
Tennant's vocal support of LGBTQ rights keeps people debating and begs issues on the limits of political discourse by celebrities.
I will not shut up. I will not be silenced by men who prioritise applause from Stonewall over the safety of women and girls.

This is an early example of what life will be like if they win.
Keir Starmer stood by while Rosie Duffield was hounded. He and his supporters will do the same with the country.
Do not let the bigots and bullies win. (2/2)
