Udumalai Kausalya has been suspended from her post at the Wellington cantonment board, where she served as an employee.

Kausalya became an anti-caste activist after her first husband, Shankar, was hacked to death in a market area in Udumalaipet in Tirupur district by men hired by her own family members in 2016. Her family had opposed their marriage as Shankar belonged to Dalit community, while Kaushalya was from the Thevar caste. She recently got remarried to Parai artist Sakthi in Coimbatore.

The activist has landed herself in trouble following an interview with an English TV channel. Kausalya reportedly spoke against the tribal sovereignty in the United States. After complaints were filed against her regarding the statements, the administration ordered her suspension. Whether or not further action will be taken against her is yet to be known.
