The most waited, talked about and controversial film 'Udta Punjab' finally hit theatres on June 20th. This movie has been directed by Abhishek Chaubey and has currently become the 5th highest opening weekend of 2016.

According to sources, the movie had a good start at the box office, especially in cities like Delhi and Punjab. It has minted Rs. 10.05 cr. on the first day of its release, while on the other two days, the movie saw a growth of 11.94 %. The film maintained strong grip in Punjab and Delhi throughout. Sources also reveal that, on Saturday, the film earned Rs 11.25 cr., while the Sunday collections were of Rs 12.50 cr., making the total collections of the film Rs 33.80 cr.

If we go by day one collections, the film has secured the fifth position in the list of movies with highest opening day collections of 2016; at 1 -'Housefull 3', 2 -'Airlift', 3 -'Baaghi', 4 -'Udta Punjab'.

This movie featured actor Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor and Diljit Dosanjh in lead roles.
